It really does show however that the idea that colonization brought advancement was false because advancements were there established through trade and ally-ship. There were industries and working (albeit at war) governments too. Such a good read. Honored to have found it.
I see you don’t use the names of the sultans but you do for the Portuguese and other Participants in the story. Who are the names of the Sultans of Mombasa and Malindi
The kinglists that I found about Malindi seem to have come from later traditional accounts. Historical sources mention six Malindi rulers: the first two who wrote the 1514 and 1520 letters, and the one who moved to Mombasa in 1593. We then get three more Malindi sultans at Mombasa until 1631. Surprisingly, we have more names for non-royal people from Malindi in historical and epigraphic records than the actual sultans of Malindi. Most of them come from Kilwa since the 15th century, but others were in Mombasa and Zanzibar.
